MacareNeXT: The official dance song of the Apple – NeXT merger

August 1, 2009 § Leave a comment

It was January of 1997. Apple had just announced the acquisition of NeXT. The Macarena was the world’s most popular dance song. I was growing increasingly restless in my job as a management consultant.

It all came together here…

(apologies for the outdated links, but I wanted to preserve the historical record)

iPhone Fever!

iPhone Fever
With apologies to Bucker & Garcia (and PacMan)
[Updated 3/17 to match iTunes

I got my ninety-nine in hand, and I head to A-D-C.
I slurp on down the S-D-K and bringing up Xcode 3
Don’t bother me with Java, or tempt me with a Zune.
I’m gonna make my own app, and ship it out in June!

‘Cause I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.
It’s driving me crazy, driving me crazy.

I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.

I’m going out of my mind, going out of my mind.

I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.

I’m going out of my mind, going out of my mind.

I’ve got my VC pitch down, to sell K-P-C-B
Yeah, PopCap‘s on my tail, but my app will be free!
So I’m heading to my basement, and learning Cocoa Touch
Whoever knew that ol’ iPhone could really do so much!

I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.
It’s driving me crazy, driving me crazy.

I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.

I’m going out of my mind, going out of my mind.

I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.

I’m going out of my mind, going out of my mind.

I’m gonna tilt to the left, and flick to the right,
The hardware OpenGL ES makes graphics out of sight.

The simulator runs, location begs for lots more
One more Instruments trace then ship it to the AppStore
My code is smokin’ now, I dig Objective-C
And when the money’s rolling in, I’ll hit W-W-D-C

‘Cause I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.
It’s driving me crazy, driving me crazy.

I’ve got iPhone Fever, iPhone Fever.

I’m going out of my mind, going out of my mind….

Where Am I?
